SCOTCH PLAINS — A century ago, two brothers — Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe who were in the real-estate business — bought 51 acres of land in Scotch Plains and Fanwood off Martine Avenue with the intent to build homes and sell them to African-American families who otherwise could not get home loans.
