Walk For C.A.K.E., Mental Health Fair Set For Sunday

WESTFIELD — To celebrate National Mental Health Awareness Month, the Westfield Mental Health Council will present a Mental Health Day of free activities this Sunday, April 28.

The day will begin with a “Walk for C.A.K.E.” in Mindowaskin Park from 10:30 a.m. to noon. C.A.K.E. stands for the Mental Health Council’s emphasis on Compassion, Acceptance, Kindness and Empathy.

Participants will check in on the interior park road adjacent to the gazebo, where they can enjoy a walk in the park punctuated with stations highlighting aspects of wellness such as yoga, music, art, meditation and pet therapy. After the walk, attendees will be invited to have a sweet treat in the spirit of C.A.K.E.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., there will be several different activities at the Bauer Family Branch YMCA, located at 422 East Broad Street, Westfield, including: 11:30 a.m. — Meditation-Yoga Activity.

12 p.m. — Mental Health Talk. 12:45 p.m. — Presentation: Building Emotional Resiliency from The Inside Out.

Journaling — ongoing. Art Therapy — ongoing. Pet Therapy — ongoing. Resources will be available from a wide variety of mental-health-related organizations, and local bakeries are providing sweet treats for attendees in support of the C.A.K.E. theme.
