Blue Devils Jar Oratory, 7-5, New Providence Pioneers, 5-2

With the score knotted, 5-5, the visiting Westfield High School baseball team scored twice in the top of the seventh inning then held to jar the Oratory Prep Rams, 7-5, in Summit on April 9. One day later in Westfield, starting pitcher Tomas Cestero was on the mound for six innings and held the New Providence Pioneers to just two singles, while striking out eight, walking three and hitting two batters in a 5-2 victory. Tommy Hyland pitched the seventh inning and recorded two strikeouts. Against the Rams, starting pitcher Grant Como was on the mound until he was relieved by winning pitcher Logan Revock with two outs in the sixth inning. Como recorded 10 strikeouts, while ceding five hits and five walks.

Jake Alfano whacked a pair of solo home runs for the 3-0 Blue Devils and Nic Labin added a home run, walk and two RBI. Randy Davis doubled, singled, walked and scored once. Cestero doubled, walked, stole a base and scored once. Braedan Trajkovski doubled, scored once and had an RBI. Kellen Edwards doubled, walked, stole two bases, had two RBI and scored once. Aaron Ives was hit by a pitch twice. Liam Sullivan singled and Charlie McCormack walked and stole a base.

Robbie Costello went 2-for-3 with two RBI, a walk and a run scored for Oratory. Caden Breault singled twice and scored once. Joe Loiacono singled twice and stole a base. Victor Larach was hit, stole a base and scored. Jalen Brogdon walked, scored once and had an RBI. Logan Costello walked and scored once. Dante Iannitelli stole a base and scored. Losing pitcher Mike Greco recorded seven strikeouts and Breault, the reliever, recorded five strikeouts.

Alfano also smacked a home run against the Pioneers and added two RBI, two runs scored, a single and a stolen base. Cestero singled, walked, stole a base and scored once. Edwards went 2-for-3, stole a base and scored twice. Trajkovski doubled, singled and walked once. Ives went 2-for-3, Labin went 1-for-2 with a walk and Mikey Lynch had an RBI.

Lusa Vitale had a two-run single for the Pioneers. Ryan Kessler singled and scored once. Andrew Kowantz scored once. Jake Monaco was hit once and walked once. Robby Roth was hit once. Sean Reilly and losing pitcher Vince Graziano both walked once.
