Raiders Skip By Blue Devils, In Boys Volleyball, 25-18, 25-12

ENNIS 10 KILLS, DONOHUE 21 ASST; AGARWAL 12 KILLS

Despite returning only one of the “Core Four” from last year, the No. 3 Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School boys volleyball team made it four in a row with a 25-18, 25-12, victory over the Westfield Blue Devils in Westfield on April 5. With Nick Schmidt, Jeremy Zimmerman and Zach Chung having graduated from that “Core Four”, the remaining member, senior Tim Ennis, led the way.

The 4-0 Raiders opened their season with a 25-23, 25-7, win over the Linden Tigers onApril 1 then knocked off the Piscataway Chiefs, 25-15, 2513, a day later. On April 3, the Raiders softened the Elizabeth Minutemen, 25-15, 25-12. The Blue Devils opened with a 25-6, 25-8, triumph over Roselle Catholic then lost to Monroe in three games after winning the first 25-20. Monroe came back to win the next two, 25-14, 25-17.

In the contest that was definitely not your backyard style of volleyball, Game 1 between the Raiders and the Blue Devils was tight all the way and each team would manage to get only a one- or two-point lead until the score got to 19-18 Raiders. From there, Tim Ennis served up six straight service points to end the game. Game 2 came a little easier for the Raiders.

Tim Ennis finished with 10 kills, 12 digs, two assists and six service points with two aces. Dan Ennis recorded nine kills, five digs and nine service points with a pair of aces. Senior Quinn Donohue dished out 21 assists, while adding two kills, four digs, a block and two service points with an ace. Kirean McIlroy Barker had six service points, two assists and 10 digs. Senior Mike Wojcik finished with three service points and an ace, five digs and a kill. Ryan Pierson had a kill and a block. Aaron Frank notched two kills, a block and two digs.Andrew Sicinski scooped five digs. Ryan Adams had four service points with a pair of aces.

Veer Agarwal was the “Big Bang” man for the Blue Devils with 12 kills to go with a pair of digs. Sebastian Lorenzo dished out 17 assists and scooped five digs. Brandon Genlot recorded 12 digs and an ace. Ethan Cha recorded three kills, three digs and a block. Matt Bonn had a kill, block and a dig. Aiden Richards notched a kill. Ruichi Tanemori scooped four digs. John Hickey made a block.

In Westfield’s win over Roselle Catholic,Agarwal notched six kills and added two aces. Jack Graham had three kills and an ace. Lorenzo had seven aces and six assists. Kueijiro Tanaka recorded five aces and four assists. Cha had three aces and a kill. Tanemori had twoaces.BonnhadakillasdidRichards. Dan Flores had an ace.

Agarwal recorded 12 kills and seven digs against Monroe. Genlot had 13 digs. Lorenzo had 27 assists, six digs, a block and an ace. Cha recorded 10 kills, five digs and a block. Bonn had five kills, two aces, two digs and a block. Graham had two kills. Hickey had two digs and a block. Tanemori recorded four digs and an ace. Richards notched a kill.

The Raiders’ win over Linden had Tim Ennis notching 12 kills and two blocks. Donohue recorded 20 assists, six service points with an ace, three kills and four blocks. Dan Ennis recorded 15 services, six kills and nine digs. Wojcik had 11 digs and a service point. Pierson had five blocks and four kills. McElroy Barker had eight digs, an assist and two service points with an ace.

Ray Miese had nine assists for Linden. Alusine Kemokai notched five kills as did Van Jasmin. Ethan DaCosta had three kills and two service points with an ace. Jezel Molina had six assists. SantiagoAlvarez recorded six service points with a pair of aces.

Tim Ennis was huge once again against Piscataway, recording 11 kills, 15 service points with eight aces and three blocks. Donahue had 17 assists, 10 service points with two aces, two kills and two blocks. Wojcik had three kills, a block, four digs and a service ace. Pierson notched four kills and two blocks. Dan Ennis had four kills and two services. Frank recorded three kills, an assist and a block. Brandon Indoe had two digs and a kill. McElroy Barker scooped four digs.

For the Chiefs, Muaz Hussainy had seven assists and a kill. Noah Rivera and Chris Wilson each had four kills. Vaughn Turner and Savian Norberto (dig) each notched three kills. Johan Rosario scooped five digs.

Against Elizabeth, Donahue recorded 20 assists, 12 digs, five service points, four kills and a dig. Tim Ennis finished with nine kills, seven digs, two assists and two service points. Dan Ennis notched eight kills and added eight digs, three assists and a service point. McElroy Barker recorded 12 service points with two aces, and 13 digs. Wojcik had seven kills and 11 digs. Pierson had two kills and three blocks. Frank had two kills. Sicinski recorded two service points, two kills, a block and six digs.

Wady Duran recorded eight assists, three service points, a kill and a block for Elizabeth. Gabe Perreira had two service points, two kills and a block. Ethan Bermudez had eight digs. Edwin Paniagua notched a pair of kills.
