College Club Honored For Women’s History Month

FANWOOD/SCOTCH PLAINS — During the March 18 meeting of Fanwood’s governing body, Mayor Colleen Mahr presented a proclamation recognizing the College Club of Fanwood-Scotch Plains as a vibrant and active women’s organization that has been serving the Fanwood and Scotch Plains communities for 91 years. Since the club’s inception in 1933, its members have never lost sight of the club’s mission to empower women through education by providing scholarships to local young women annually.

“I, Colleen Mahr, Mayor of the Borough of Fanwood, hereby proclaim the month of March as ‘Women’s History Month’in the Borough of Fanwood to recognize the contributions these and all women have made in the past, the present and will make in the future, for the benefit of this nation,” read the mayor’s proclamation honoring the College Club of Fanwood-Scotch Plains.

The first scholarship that was awarded by the College Club of Fanwood-Scotch Plains was for $200 to a single recipient. Last year, the College Club awarded $25,500 in scholarships to 11 local young women. To date, the College Club has awarded approximately $780,000 in scholarships to approximately 582 recipients.

The Scholarship Committee of the College Club currently is reviewing scholarship applications and will award scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic year in May. Fundraising to support scholarships has been crucial to the College Club since its inception, and the current membership of approximately 50 active members continues to be motivated to raise funds to support the next generation of young women through scholarships.

The College Club welcomes new members to support its vision. To learn more about the College Club of Fanwood-Scotch Plains and to obtain membership information, send an email to collegeclubfsp@gmail.com or visit the club website at www.fspcollegeclub.org.
