Westfield PAL Matmen Finish With 15-0 Record

In the realm of local youth wrestling, few programs can match the success achieved by Westfield PAL Wrestling in the past season. The CJYWL (Central Jersey Youth Wrestling League), a K-6 league, saw impressive performances from Westfield PAL grapplers.

The Varsity team had an impressive 11-0 record in the league and a perfect 15-0 overall season. Their tenacity and dedication culminated in a thrilling tournament victory winning by a single point. Additionally, the JV team showed great skill and teamwork, finishing with a flawless 14-0 record overall.

Key Performances: Hudson Ferrigno won the Outstanding Wrestler Award and secured a crucial pin in the tournament finals, Ferrigno also had an undefeated season. Nico DeStefano led the team with a firstplace finish, an undefeated season, and the most pins. Andrew Bieser also secured a first-place finish.

Connor Farley and Ryan Young earned second-place finishes, while Junior Serme placed third. Gavin Reynolds, Zach Vanderbeck, Garrett Lackett and Ryan Karlbon secured fourth-place finishes. Holden Fishman and Connor Dowling secured fifthplace finishes. Brendan McCabe, Teddy Lamb and Tai Leroy placed sixth. Max Kamo, Charlie Buonopane and Logan McCabe further contributed to the team’s success.

The coaching staff, including Varsity Coaches Lou DeStefano, Pat Farley, Matt McCabe, and Christian Psomas, along with JV Coaches Ryan Strahlendorff and John Sarokhan, played vital roles in guiding the team.

Westfield PAL Wrestling’s strong sense of teamwork and unity fostered a culture of determination. Each match was a team effort, with wrestlers fighting not only for themselves but for their teammates. Their second consecutive CJYWLVarsity title marked a significant achievement, not seen since 1983, prior to last season. As the season concluded, their inspiring culture of hard work, dedication, and teamwork sets the stage for future success. With a talented group of athletes and dedicated coaches, Westfield Wrestling has a bright future ahead at both the youth and high school levels.

While the Westfield CJYWL team has completed its season, the Westfield PAL sponsored Mid NJ and Northern NJ teams complete their seasons over the next two weeks.
