Franklin Boy Cagers Jolt Blue Devils in Section, 68-43

A very quick but consistent run allowed the seventh-seeded Franklin Warriors boys basketball team to jolt the 10th-seeded Westfield Blue Devils, 68-43, in the first round of the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 Tournament in Somerset on February 21. The Blue Devils ended their season with a 14-12 record, while the Warriors upped their record to 15-11.

Senior Shane Sheehan put up 15 points, including three of four free throws, pulled seven rebounds and added two blocks, an assist and a steal for the Blue Devils. Junior Enzo Ferrero sank eight points, including 2 3-pointers, and added three rebounds, an assist and a steal. Junior Zach Epp scored four points (3-pointer) and added four rebounds, a block and an assist. Sophomore Jake Russell nailed a 3-pointer.

Sophomore Max MacEacheron sank a pair of 3-pointers and added two steals, a rebound and an assist. Senior Stephen Edwards hit a 3pointer and had three assists. Junior Will Kirby (2 assists) and sophomore Connor Whelan each scored two points. Junior Ty’shawn Pearson had four assists and four rebounds. Junior Farid Habayeb grabbed two rebounds.

Cam Brown led the Warriors with 21 points, including a pair of 3-pointers and 3-for-4 in free throws, three assists, three rebounds and two steals. Landen Miller finished with 17 points (2 3-pointers, 3-for-4 free throws), six assists and two rebounds. Elisha Brown had six points, six assists and four rebounds. Jah’naad Cady had seven points (3-pointer), four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Chris Lewis had eight points, eight rebounds, three steals and an assist. Shaylen Patel nailed trip 3-pointers. Joe Nwachukwu grabbed five boards and Justin Diaz had three rebounds and two steals.
