Westfield’s annual Open Quimby event, which converts the downtown street into a pedestrian thoroughfare for the summer, kicks off on Saturday, April 25, with a free, open-air event called Spring Into Fitness. The shop is open seven days a week. *** Plans to open a Harmon Discounts store in the Garwood Mall will not be moving forward. A sign reading “Harmons – coming soon” has been taken down after more than a year and replaced with a new sign that reads “now leasing.” *** 7-Eleven announced last week that it plans to close about 645 stores over the course of the coming year. Several local stores, including those in Westfield, Mountainside and Garwood, operate as franchise locations and are unlikely to be impacted by the corporate restructuring. *** The Rustic Mill Diner and Pancake House in Cranford has closed its doors after more than 50 years in business. The restaurant has been closed for more than a week. Its future is uncertain, but a Google search of the establishment turned up a “permanently closed” result on Thursday.
