Mount Saint Mary Junior Earns Scholarship to Study in Spain

WATCHUNG –Aiden Steinwald, a junior at Mount Saint MaryAcademy and a resident of Westfield, has been selected to receive the Junior Travel Study Abroad Scholarship from the AmericanAssociation of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP). From July 18 to 26,Aiden will be immersed in the language and culture of Salamanca, Spain.

This is the third consecutive year that a student from Mount Saint Mary Academy has received a Junior Travel Study Abroad Scholarship from AATSP.

Cursos Internacionales de la Universidad de Salamanca will be organizing the trip which includes 20 hours of Spanish language instruction at the University of Salamanca (USAL), local transportation, tours, meals, and insurance.

“During my week in Spain this summer, I look forward to applying the Spanish language outside of the classroom and improving my communication skills through real conversations,” said Aiden. “I am excited to learn about and appreciate Spanish culture and history by exploring its traditions, food, architecture, and daily life. Being immersed in a different country will allow me to learn in ways beyond textbook knowledge, giving me new perspectives and a deeper understanding of the people, lifestyle, and culture of Spain.”

Madeline Albrittain, World Languages Department Chairperson, said, “This travel scholarship will provide Aiden with the opportunity to grow her proficiency in the language as she will be studying and living at La Universidad de Salamanca. Study abroad opportunities, such as this, really allow students to immerse themselves in the culture and gain a whole new perspective on the language. I look forward to hearing about her experience in class next year!”

For 117 years, Mount Saint Mary Academy has inspired young women to become their best selves. In an ever-changing world, the Mount remains a place where innovation shapes the learning environment while timeless values serve as the foundation. A sponsored work of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, Mount Saint Mary Academy is dedicated to the education of the entire person, with high academic standards, an emphasis on spiritual growth, and a multitude of extracurricular opportunities.
