Cougars’ Moxie, FG Staggers Rahway in Grid Clash, 43-41
Backs against the wall, playoff hopes on the line and trailing by one point with just 0:35.9 remaining in the game, the Cranford High School football Cougars had to figure out how to pull a rabbit out of their hats when they kicked off to the Rahway Indians at Memorial Field in Cranford on October 3. A successful onside kick recovered by Jared Acinapura, an eight-yard reception by junior wide receiver John Fiore and a 31-yard reception by co-captain/wide receiver Quinn Smith placed the ball on the 19 where senior Andre Pereira booted a 36-yard field goal with 0:00 left on the clock to earn the Cougars a 43-41 victory.
