The AL Johnson High School softball team recorded its fourth-straight shutout in a row and eight straight win after dropping a 5-2, 10-inning thriller to the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Raiders on April 25. After knocking off the Woodbridge Barrens, 5-0, and the Elizabeth Lady Minutemen, 10-0, the Crusaders shut out the Caldwell Chiefs, 7-0, on May 7 then set back the Hillbillies of Verona, 3-0, on May 8.
Winning pitcher Giuliana Hamm sat down nine Chiefs and walked only one. Liz Yanni went 3-for-4 with a double, run scored and three RBI. Cassie Conforti went 2-for-4 and scored twice. Liz Fitzharris singled, walked and scored twice. Hamm went 2-for-3 with a walk, run scored and an RBI. Gianna Callejo went 2-for-3. Addison Meyer singled, walked and scored. Courrtney Kilmer had an RBI double.
Ava Rodrigues went 2-for-3 for Caldwell. Makayla Curcio and Ellie Mona both singled. Losing pitcher Deanna Skikus recorded five strikeouts and four walks.
Conforti was the winning pitcher against Verona and recorded nine strikeouts and three walks. Yanni doubled, scored once and had an RBI. Hamm doubled and had two RBI. Conforti singled and scored. Fitzharris singled, walked and scored. Kilmer walked once.
