WESTFIELD – Westfield Community Players is excited to present its final show of the season, Steel Magnolias, opening Saturday, May 3.
This beloved comedy-drama is known for its ability to elicit both laughter and tears, often simultaneously. It takes place in the 1980’s at Truvy’s Beauty Spot, the salon where “anyone who’s anybody” gets their hair done, including six strong Southern women who have become loyal friends.
These ladies exchange much more than gossip and recipes, as Steel Magnolias explores the many facets of relationships. It showcases both vulnerability and resilience as the friends face life’s greatest joys and most harrowing challenges. Author Robert Harling’s story demonstrates how a humorous quip or witty retort from a supportive friend is often exactly what is needed.
The cast features Rachelle Mandik as “Truvy,” Jessica Musolino as “Annelle,” Ann Minski as “Clairee,” Christie Storms as “Shelby,” Jennifer Padley as “M’Lynn” and Cynthia Okamoto as “Ouiser.”
Steel Magnolias is directed by Linda Correll and produced by Lois LePore. John Correll is the stage manager.
Show dates are May 3, 10, 16 and 17 at 8 p.m. with matinees May 4 and 11 at 2 p.m. at the theater, 1000 North Avenue West, Westfield.
Come revisit the 1980’s where the hair is big, but the love and laughter are even bigger!
