Carolyn Mitilenes, 100, Beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother
Carolyn Mitilenes, age 100, most recently of Warren, N.J., passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at Morristown Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness.
Born and raised in Newark, N.J., she was the beloved daughter of the late Theodore and Catherine ( Katica) Jovanis. She was voted the “Prettiest Greek Girl” in 1942 by a local Greek organization.
Carolyn and her husband, Nickolas, lived in West Orange for more than 40 years, where they raised their family. Carolyn had been a volunteer aide at West Orange High School, working in the school library and the guidance office. She enjoyed cooking and traveling, but most importantly spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded by her beloved husband, Nickolas G. Mitilenes, and her dear brothers, Peter and Paul Jovanis. She was the devoted mother of daughter Georgene Bonard and her husband, Thomas, of Westfield and son Dr. George N. Mitilenes (Robin) of Mendham, and also is survived by five grandchildren, Katie Warshaw (Isaac), Nicky Mitilenes (Tiffany), Tommy Bonard (Pamela), Katrina Mitilenes and Georgie Mitilenes; and four greatgrandchildren, Sloane, Isabella, Avery and Tommy, and two more on the way. Carolyn’s funeral liturgy was held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 250 Gallows Hill Road, Westfield, preceded by a visitation in the church. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
