SUMMIT AREA — The Summit Area Old Guard will present Bryan Felt, the athletic director of Seton Hall University (SHU), as the guest speaker for its Tuesday, July 23 meeting. A SHU graduate with a lifetime career in sports and media, Mr. Felt will tell the story of Seton Hall athletics, including the recent NIT championship, building a new basketball practice facility and the success of other sports teams, notably golf. He also will share his knowledge of what NIL (name, image, likeness) is and how the NIL portal works.
Founded in 1930, the Summit Area Old Guard meets most Tuesdays at 10 a.m. at the New Providence Presbyterian Church, located at 1307 Springfield Avenue, New Providence.
The Old Guard is a social, recreational and educational fellowship of retired men. Dues are minimal. The group provides speakers and multiple activities through the volunteer efforts of its members. Old Guard programs are free and open to the public. The group’s motto is “Come for the Programs. Stay for the Friends.” Past speakers and much more can be viewed at summitoldguard.org. Upcoming Old Guard presentations include the following. July 30 — The guest speaker will be Michael Gomez, Ph.D., president of St. Peter’s Preparatory School in Jersey City, founded in 1872.
August 6 — Professor Jerry DeFrancisco will discuss international law in theory and practice.
August 13 — Leslie Workman, board president of the Farmstead Arts Center in Basking Ridge, will be featured.
August 20 — Gene Pascucci, owner and proprietor of Empire Antiques & Auction House, in Hightstown, will speak to Old Guard members.
