The top-seeded South Plainfield Tigers defeated the eighth-seeded Cranford Cougars, 6-2, in the quarterfinal round of the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 playoffs in South Plainfield on May 29. The 215-1 Tigers scored all six of their runs in the third inning.
Brayden Fry went 3-for-4 and stole a base for the 13-11 Cougars and Dylan Falk singled, was hit twice, stole a base and scored once. Pat Bendert went 2-for-2 with a double and run scored. Ryan Carracino singled and walked. Sean Riley had an RBI and stole a base. Brendan Berry walked once. Falk, who was charged with the loss, yielded all six runs, hit a pair of batters and walked one. Joe Paccione relieved and struck out six Tigers.
Zach Robinson tripled, doubled, had three RBI and scored once for the Tigers. Dan Kapsch singled, walked, stole a base and scored. Dom Massaro singled, walked and scored. Nick Irizarry singled and scored. Aiden McCarthy and Steve Studlack each stole a base and scored. Ryan Balent singled. Winning pitcher Kevin Penny recorded six strikeouts, while walking two and hitting a pair of batters.
