No. 8 Blue Devils Rock Ridge, Bergen Tech in Boys Lacrosse

The No. 8 ranked Westfield High School boys lacrosse team broke a 44, halftime tie with five third-quarter goals and held on to defeat the hosting Ridge Red Devils on May 21. On May 25, the second-seeded Blue Devils had a field day with 15thseeded Bergen Tech in the first round of the North Jersey, Group 4 Tournament in a 22-1 triumph.

Senior attacker Cody Lam notched four goals and scooped three ground balls against the 10-7 Red Devils. Garrett Ferguson had two goals and two ground balls. Colin Coyle finished with a goal, four assists and three ground balls. Christian Gilford had a goal and two assists. Luke Angelo scored once. Koby Waldman had an assist and Jack Paris scooped four ground balls. Mike Marshall scooped three ground balls and was 1-for-1 in face-offs. Gavin Laconti was 1-for-1 in face-offs and scooped a ground ball. Drew Pravlik, Steve Csorba and goalkeeper Corey Gilford (14 saves) each scooped two ground balls.

John Kaiser scored twice for the Red Devils. Dan Caesar had three goals and an assist. Spencer Jiang had a goal and an assist. Brendan Laffery and Ryan Olivo each scored once. Goalkeeper Dave Hamilton recorded eight saves.

In the drudging of 9-10 Bergen Tech, Lam finished with five goals, four assist and a ground ball. Ferguson had four goals and an assist. Coyle finished with two goals, four assists and a ground ball. Billy Gerne had two goals and an assist. Angelo had a goal, two assists and three ground balls. Marshall scored once and scooped four ground balls. Waldman had a goal, assist and three ground balls. Ben Seward scooped six ground balls. Luke Spaide (ground ball), Sean Koenke, Luke Gerne (ground ball) and Kieran Gerne each scored once. Josh Caramagno won 13 of 15 faceoffs and scooped five ground balls. Chris Smok won six of seven faceoffs. Oliver Kocaj won four of five face-offs and scooped a pair of ground balls.

The 11-5 Blue Devils will host 10th-seeded Hillsborough today Thursday, May 30, at 3 p.m. Hillsborough ousted seventh-seeded Watchung Hills, 10-8
