Ninety-Seven WHS Students Attain World-Lang. Honors

WESTFIELD — Ninety-seven students at Westfield High School (WHS) have been inducted into the National Honor Societies for Spanish, French, Chinese and Italian, with 51 excelling in Spanish, 21 in French, 13 in Chinese and 12 in Italian.

“Our students have truly earned this distinction with their resilience and dedication,” said K-12 World Language Supervisor Enrique Pincay. “It’s not merely their academic success that sets them apart; these students have also actively participated in their respective language clubs and shown a deep commitment to enriching the Westfield educational community. They are outstanding individuals.”

At a World Language Induction Ceremony on May 2, the following students were inducted into Pensativa, the WHS chapter of La Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica or National Spanish Honor Society.

Sophia Basaldua, Evan Bauer, Alexa Bloch, Jolie Hope Bruder, Luca M. Carollo, Madeline Coen, Charlotte Cotroneo, Addison Crispino, Brianna Crispino, Kaitlyn D’Alessandro, Keira Deignan, Carson Donnelly, Emma Ferraro, Gabrielle Flannery, Elle Foster, Daniel A. Flores-Gonzalez, Lauren Furey, James Furrer, Mica Gensler-Canale, Daniel Gonzalez, Anna Jemison, Chloe Katz, Benjamin Latessa, Zachary Latessa, Leah Hoffman, Charlotte Liu, Anna Luchsinger, Grace Malanowski, Rhegan McCormack, Gabriella E. Mercado, Lizzie Miles, Ruby Moscowitz, Sabrina Muller, Laura Oliveira, Archit Palit, Sofia Panora, Jake Pardes, Gabriella Pardo, Lillian Petrie, Emma Pranke, Nickolas Regas, Luke Renshaw, Julianne Robinson, Ximena Ines Rodriguez, Elle Romano, Ethan Selvers, Aanand Shah,Abigail Silverman,Alina Summer- Brason, Julia Surowitz and Ethan Wade.

Spanish teachers and Pensativa advisors Rose Calimano and Bonnie Underwood also noted that the WHS chapter of Pensativa is celebrating its 40th year.

Twenty-one students were inducted into the Société Honoraire de Français, the National French Honor Society, and congratulated by French teacher and club advisor Rachel Janus. They include the following: Hannah Altman, Anya Ausiello, Alexa Bowe, Ethan Cha, Owen Callahan, Alex Danenhauer, Deven Davies, Emelia Dengler, Annabel Lang, Liliana Lincoln, Flynn Martin, Kiran Patel, Lily Patel, Hayden Pfister, Ana Sanchez, Chloe Spatz, Sinh Strycharz, Kathryn Tonking, Logan Welsh, Elias Wood and Matias Zarate.

Mandarin Chinese instructor/club advisor Kim Ou-Yang announced the following inductees into the National Chinese Honor Society: Bennet Ayala, Logan Cabral, Priscilla Dayon, Quinlan Doherty, Brendan Genlot, Matthew Hunsinger, Owen Ing, Dwayne Magno, Aidan O’Donnell, Will Sun, Rein Waller, Jodi Wong and Zachary Wragg.

Marisa Milas, who teaches Italian and is club advisor at the high school, congratulated the following students, inducted into the National Italian Honor Society or La Società Onoraria Italica: Milo Aitken, Andrew Cicala, Christopher Galella, Marcella Gallo, Nicole Gerkens, Mallory Hughes, Leo Mazzola, Elena Morey, Ximena Rodriguez, Dominic Romeo, Ruby Saltman and Alessandra Scrofani.
