SCOTCH PLAINS — The Scotch Plains Public Library will host a presentation on “Conservation in the Classroom” on Monday, May 20, beginning at 7 p.m. Zachary Rittner, head of the environmental science department at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School, will present this fun and informative session, and will even bring along some of this year’s bobwhite quail chicks for the audience to meet.
Mr. Rittner will share information about the life cycles and conservation status of important species, including Rainbow Trout, Northern Bobwhite Quail and Northern Diamond Terrapins. Students raise these species in their classrooms during the school year and develop a deep appreciation for the value of wildlife.
As described on their Instagram site, “Conservation in the Classroom inspires students to become environmental stewards and protect biodiversity through wildlife headstart programs.” Children with an interest in wildlife conservation are welcome to attend the program.
