Several Westfield High School boys and girls competed at the Penn Relays held at Franklin Field in Philadelphia on April 25-27. Blue Devils Alex Valencia (1,200 – 3:03.62), Manny Gayanilo (400 – 49.37), Ryan Daly (800 – 1:57.99) and Avery Keith (3,200 – personal best 4:12.65, 4th WHS all-time) finished second in the Distance Medley Relay with a Westfield High School Record time of 10:03.62.
Although not placing in the top-9, Blue Devils Rowan McMahill (51.83), Noah Petrassi (50.5), Daly (5.01) and Gayanilo (49.35) took first in their heat of the 4×400 with a time of 3:22.68. Neil Weiss, Petrassi, Chris Sanford and McMahill completed the 4×100 in 43.65.
Blue Devils Gabby Demeter, Darcy Scheiner, Maura Hyland and Sean O’Brien recorded a time of 48.68 in the 4×100. Union Catholic Vikings Jimmiea King, Peyton Hollis, Sophia Thompson and Paige Sheppard broke the National Record in the 4×800 with a time of 8:41.2. The previous record of 8:43.12 was set in 2008 by Eleanor Roosevelt (MD).
