WESTFIELD — March is Women’s History Month, and the Westfield Memorial Library will celebrate it with two programs spotlighting women during different eras. The library is located at 550 East Broad Street.

On Tuesday, March 26, at 7 p.m., historian and lecturer Joel Farkas will present “Remember the Ladies.” Mr. Farkas will talk about how men viewed women, the expectations of women, and the challenges of just being a woman in Revolutionary War times.

A graduate of Ohio University, Mr. Farkas was an officer in the United States Army and a National Park Service volunteer docent at Washington’s Headquarters in Morristown. He is a recipient of the National Park Service Centennial Volunteer Challenge Award and is a collector of original historical autographs.

Vocalist and songwriter Carol Selick has gone back to her musical roots and put together a music program with songs by her favorite female singer-songwriters of the 1960s and 1970s. On Saturday, March 30, at 2 p.m., she will sing their songs and pay tribute to the strong, talented women trailblazers of those tumultuous times: Laura Nyro, Carole King, Joni Mitchell and Carly Simon. Ms. Selick is a singer/songwriter and the author of “Beyond the Song,” winner of the 2022 Firebird Book Award in Biographical Fiction and Women’s Fiction. It is an autobiographical novel based on her adventures in the music business during the late ’60s and early ’70s.
