Mountainside Celebrates Resident’s 100th Birthday

MOUNTAINSIDE — At the beginning of the February Mountainside Council meeting held on Tuesday evening, a proclamation was read in celebration of Mountainside resident Anna Tretola’s 100th birthday.

According to the proclamation,Anna was born on January 19, 1924, the youngest of six children. She had five brothers and their family of eight navigated the Great Depression together.

The proclamation also noted that even during those hard times, Anna remained a happy person and always tried to see the good in everyone.

It was stated that she was an avid reader, pouring over 100 books per year and keeping track of them on a spreadsheet.

She has a love for music, art, cooking, golf and bowling. It was noted that she and her late husband, Hugo, would go on an annual golf trip to Florida in Hugo’s retirement years.

It also was noted that family has always been very important to her, as she had taken care of her own mother until her passing at 103, and over the years she attended many sporting and social events to support her grandchildren.

Her two sons, Jim Tretola and Mike Tretola, and her grandson, Jimmy Tretola, were at the meeting to support their mom and grandmother and to receive the proclamation.

In other business, the council unanimously approved a resolution that will allow officials to apply for a Community Affairs Grant to replace broken lights on the borough’s pickleball courts. The council also voted to approve a 6-percent salary increase for non-union borough employees that will be retroactive to the beginning of 2024.

It further was announced on Tuesday that a summer pool manager, John Tosato, had been was appointed at a salary of $14,516 and that an assistant manager, Scott Laudati, was appointed at a salary of $9,433.

The next Mountainside Council meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, in the municipal building.
