Late ‘Surge’ in 7th Catapults St. Seb. Over St. Ignatius, 10-9

Relatively smooth sailing for St. Ignatius ran into very choppy waters in its St. Bart’s Oldtimers Men’s Softball League game against St. Sebastian at Brookside Park in Scotch Plains on August 11. Playing with a squad of just nine players for four innings, St. Sebastian trailed 7-2 but with the late addition of Tom Grycan, scored twice in the fifth, once in the sixth then surged with a tidal wave of five runs in the bottom of the seventh to earn a come-from-behind 10-9 triumph when John Greenblatt’s grounder back to the mound allowed Wells Pikaart to cruise home with the winner.
