Out of county competition proved to be quite inadequate when the seventh- seeded Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School Raiders softball team hosted the 10th-seeded, 11-14 JP Stevens Hawks from Edison, Middlesex County in the first round of the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 Tournament in Scotch Plains on May 26. The 13-13 Raiders bombarded the now 11-15 Hawks with nine runs in the first inning, six runs in the second inning and another five runs in the third inning to grab a three and one-half inning, 20-0 victory Junior Maddie Bogart pitched the first two innings and retired all six Hawks she faced, recording five strikeouts and fielding a slow grounder that she converted to a putout at first base. Senior Emily Roof was on the mound in the third and fourth innings and retired all six Hawks she faced, while recording three strikeouts.
