Born on March 8, 1947, in Westfield, New Jersey, he was the beloved son of the late Harold and Constance Hawkins.
Chip grew up in Westfield as one of four children. He attended Oratory Prep before proudly serving two years in the U.S. Navy. He later married the love of his life, Kristi, and together they built a life centered on family, raising their two sons, Timothy and Michael, with unwavering devotion and pride.
Chip enjoyed a long and successful career in sales, working with Blue Star, Grupo Libra and the Georgia Port Authority, where he retired in 2013. He was known for his gift of conversation and his genuine ability to connect with others, forming lasting friendships wherever he went.
A dedicated father, Chip was involved in his sons’ lives. He spent many years in Boy Scouts with them, sharing adventures through camping, hiking, and canoeing. He was a constant presence at their sporting events, from travel soccer and baseball games to memorable outings at New Jersey Devils and New York Yankees games; moments that became treasured family traditions. And when his grandchildren came along, Chip enjoyed time spent with them, especially during the holidays, when he delighted in stepping into the role of Santa, creating laughter and memories they will cherish forever.
Chip had a natural way of bringing people together and found his greatest joy in the company of others. His home was often filled with laughter, especially during his well-loved gatherings and Super Bowl parties. In his later years in Bluffton, he enjoyed time with friends, playing golf, and attending local theater. He also cherished time spent at the Jersey Shore with his extended family, especially days out on his boat, “Chips Ahoy,” and family vacations to Bethany Beach, Delaware. These seaside moments became some of the most treasured memories for those who knew and loved him.
Chip was predeceased by his loving wife, Kristi. He is survived by his devoted sons, Timothy Hawkins (Jacy) and Michael Hawkins (Kelly); his sister, Terry Newman (Roger); his cherished grandchildren, Hayden, Grayson, Madison, and Mason; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Chip will be remembered for his warmth, his laughter, and the deep love he had for his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched and the memories that will be cherished always.
