Shirley Hooper

Surrounded by her four children, Shirley Anne Hooper (née Johnson), formerly of Westfield, N.J., passed peacefully on March 19, 2026.
Shirley graduated from Ottawa Hills High School in Toledo, Ohio, and Ohio Wesleyan University where she majored in Social Work and was an active member in Delta Gamma sorority and the Drama Club. She later pursued a Master’s degree in Drama from Kean University.
Shirley was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Westfield and Everittstown Methodist Church in Alexandria Township. She held leadership roles in numerous organizations, including Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside and the Westfield Chamber of Commerce, and was an active member of P.E.O., inspiring her children and grandchildren through a lifelong commitment to service. Shirley was an accomplished antiques dealer, a gifted artist and a published author.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, George A. Hooper; her parents, Fred and Anne Johnson; and her brother, Dr. Bruce M. Johnson. She is survived by her children: Tracey Abby White and her husband, Richard A. White, Sr.; Carole Hooper Decker and her husband, Dr. Elliot Decker; Alison Anne Hooper; and Richard Grant Hooper; her grandchildren, Ashton Abby Giegerich, Brittany Abby Springman, Kierstyn Abby Carman, Luke Decker,Alexander Decker, Casey Hooper, Kelly Hooper, and Erin Hooper; her nephews, Philippe Laurendeau and Ian Johnson; and six great-grandchildren.
