Success early on made it appear that the second-seeded Westfield High School boys soccer team would breeze past the seventh-seeded Ridge Red Devils in the semifinal round of the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 playoffs at Gary Kehler Stadium in Westfield on November 11. The 119-1 Blue Devils, who scored twice in the first half and added another 13 minutes into the second half before 11-6 Ridge put one on the scoreboard, did come through with a 4-1 victory but it really was not as easy as it appeared.
