Westfield Dems Sweep Election, Maintain Majority

WESTFIELD — The Westfield Democrats celebrated a sweeping victory Tuesday night, claiming four open Council seats and securing another four-year Mayoral term.

According to unofficial results, Mayoral candidate Jeremy Berman, a small business owner and political newcomer, defeated Ward 3 Councilman Michal Domogala, a Republican who was first elected in 2023, by approximately 2,559 votes.

Mr. Berman thanked Mayor Shelley Brindle and the four outgoing members of the Council – Linda Habgood, Michael Dardia, David Contract and Jim Hely – for their dedication to Westfield and congratulated them for setting a “high standard of how well local government can work.”

“I am so incredibly proud of the campaigns that we have run, and I am honored and humbled to be your next Mayor,” Mr. Berman said, speaking in front of a gathered crowd of supporters on Election Night.

“Unfortunately, it did not go our way this time around,” Mr. Domogala said, “but the fact of the matter is that we put our hearts into this. I really want to thank everyone that has supported us throughout this campaign.”

Mr. Domogala will retain his seat on the Town Council.

Democrat Reshma Adwar secured approximately 2,107 votes, or about 56.41 percent of the total Ward 1 vote, over GOP challenger Elizabeth Rampolla (1,626). In Ward 2, Democrat Vikram Venkatraman earned 2,166 votes (about 60 percent of the total votes cast in that ward) to Republican Janson Micewicz’s 1,418 votes. Jennifer Gilman, the current Chair of the Westfield Recreation Commission, defeated Republican Danny Lallis by about 800 votes, and Democrat Drew Pecker secured the open Ward 4 seat with 2,180 votes to Republican Keith Boran’s 1,486.

Approximately 14,544 residents (or about 25 percent of the total registered voters in Town) cast their ballots in Westfield this year.

Results will be certified by the Union County Clerk’s Office over the course of the coming weeks.
