Thomas Connolly
With hearts heavy yet full of love, we commemorate the life of Thomas (Tom) Connolly, who departed this world peacefully on Friday, October 24, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. At 80 years old, Tom’s final days reflected his enduring strength as he faced a difficult battle with cancer supported by those who cherished him.
Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, on March 31, 1945, to Joseph and Marion Connolly, Tom’s life was rooted in warmth, resilience, and deep family bonds. His upbringing in Elizabeth and later Westfield formed the foundation of a life centered on community and connection. A proud graduate of Westfield High School, Tom went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy. His dedication and work ethic earned him a place in electronics school, and after graduating he served as a radarman aboard the USS Harry E. Hubbard.
Tom’s greatest love story began in high school with Diane. Their relationship grew into a lifetime partnership, and they were married on December 26, 1964, at Holy Trinity Church in Westfield. After returning home from his Navy service, Tom built a successful career in computer hardware engineering while he and Diane raised their family in Westfield.
Tom’s enthusiasm for life was reflected in the many passions he embraced. Sports were always close to his heart; he played throughout his youth, coached Little League, and later joined the Union County Senior Softball League. He remained a loyal fan of the Dodgers and Notre Dame football. Proud of his military service, Tom found friendship and camaraderie in the VFW and other veterans’ groups.
A lover of history and travel, Tom especially enjoyed vacations with family, including cruises to Bermuda and a meaningful trip to Ireland to connect with his Irish heritage. His beach house in Chadwick Beach, Toms River, became a treasured gathering place where countless summer memories were made. Family and friends will always remember his sense of humor, gift of gab, and the unforgettable stories he loved to tell. Tom’s legacy lives on in those who loved him most. He is survived by his devoted wife, Diane; his children, Thomas (Laura) and Allison (Lori); his grandchildren, Ryan and Megan; and his beagle, Cali. He is predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Marion Connolly, and his brother, Joseph Connolly. We remember Tom as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose kindness and strength leave an indelible mark on every heart he touched. His memory remains a source of comfort, pride, and inspiration. We honor his journey by celebrating the remarkable man he was and the countless ways he enriched our lives.
For a man who loved every sport and every team he ever rooted for, he has gone to play ball with the angels, where the season never ends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Ave, Westfield, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center or SOS Beagle Rescue NJ in memory of Thomas “Tom” Connolly. This gesture honors his lifelong commitment to caring and giving, ensuring his legacy continues to touch lives.
