Westfielders Encouraged to Support Adwar for Ward 1

It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of support for Reshma Adwar in her pursuit of a Town Council seat in Westfield, NJ.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Adwar many years ago while advocating for nutrition and public health policies as delegates of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

At that time, we were engaging with NJ House and Senate representatives and Chiefs of Staff on Capitol Hill to present an expert opinion on the Medical Nutrition Therapy Act and the Expanding Access to Diabetes Self-Management Act. During these meetings, I observed Dr. Adwar’s poise and evidence-based approach to educating representatives on the positive impact these bills would have on the health of NJ residents. I valued her compassion and forward-thinking in addressing the health issues at hand. Even then, I encouraged her to run for office!

Dr. Adwar is a dynamic and articulate critical-thinker, who communicates thoughtfully and honestly. She is compelled to objectively assess details to understand the situation in order to identify common ground in proposing solutions.

I have witnessed her selfless efforts to improve outcomes for those with limited access to resources and services. In fact, when she learned I oversaw maternal and child health outreach at the Rev. Dr. Ronald B. Christian Community Health and Wellness Center in Newark, she volunteered to deliver lessons on health management and nutrition to pregnant women and teenagers from the community. She possesses boundless energy and unwavering personal integrity.

Reshma Adwar’s dedication, expertise and fierce commitment to improving the lives of others make her an exceptional candidate. I am confident that Dr. Adwar will bring the same level of passion and integrity to the Town Council as she has consistently demonstrated throughout her career. I strongly encourage residents of Westfield to support her for Ward 1 Town Council.

Dr. Karen S. Basedow, DCN, MS, RDN, LDN, CDCES
