Janet Bradway Kameros
Obituaries
September 18, 2025
Janet Bradway Kameros

Janet Bradway Kameros, a long-time resident of Scotch Plains, NJ, peacefully passed away at age 87 near her family in Greensboro, GA. Jan’s life was defined by her unwavering devotion to family, her vibrant involvement in the community, and the enduring friendships she nurtured throughout her childhood years in Pelham, NY, and her 60 years in Scotch Plains.

Jan attended Denison University and was a graduate of Purdue University. Upon graduation, she became an elementary school teacher, shaping the hearts and minds of her students.

At the heart of Jan’s life was her family. She will be remembered for her nurturing spirit and the warm, welcoming home she created for her children, grandchildren, and now great-grandchildren. As she often said, her greatest joy was her family—every moment together was a gift.

Jan was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Cathy, and by her husbands, Norman Chester and Richard “Dick” Kameros. She is survived by her loving sons, Scott Bradway (Lee) and Steve Bradway (Athena); her adored grandchildren, Parker Bradway (Kelly), Brooks Bradway (Laura), Carson Bradway, and Austin Bradway; and her great-grandchildren, Millie, Louis, Annie, and Peter.

She also took deep pride in her extended and blended family, including the Chester family children – Norman Chester (Vivian), Lorrie Dykas (Bill), Brian Chester (Alison) and eight grandchildren (Kevin, Daniel, Julie, Alfred, Carrie, Michael, Chris and Matthew); and the Kameros family children – Andy Kameros (Carla), Dean Kameros (Emily) and four grandchildren (Haley, Courtney, Gabe and Josh)– all of whom she dearly loved.

Some of Jan’s happiest times were spent at her family’s 1850s farmhouse in Island Pond, Vermont, where she created countless cherished memories and deepened family bonds. She fondly remembered her times at the family camp run by her parents where she later brought her children there every summer.

A natural leader, Jan left an indelible mark on the Scotch Plains community. She served on the YMCA Board of Directors, was President of the PTA, played an active role in the Jayceettes and was a real estate agent for many years. She was the founder of the Notables choral group, and she was member of the Wesley Singers and the First Congregational Church of Westfield choir. Through her love of music and faith, she brought joy, connection, and friendship to many people in her community.

Jan’s dedication to service extended well beyond her leadership roles. She volunteered for years with CASA, Hospice, and Compassionate Friends, offering compassion and support to families and children in need. Her generosity and caring spirit touched countless lives.

She developed a love for travel that took her to exciting places all over the world. When she did have some free time, she enjoyed playing tennis and bridge with friends, and she delighted in playing spirited card games of “Pounce” with loved ones.

Equally important to Jan were her lifelong friendships. She had a gift for bringing people together, celebrating special moments, and offering constant warmth, wisdom, and laughter. She treasured the many dear friends she made in the Scotch Plains area and the new connections she built in Georgia.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Margaret (NJ), Lashanda (GA), and the team of dedicated caregivers who provided Jan with such loving care in her final years. We are forever grateful for your devotion and kindness to her.

A service to celebrate Jan’s life will be held on October 3rd at 2 pm at the First Congregational Church, 125 Elmer Street, Westfield, NJ 07090.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research at give.michaeljfox.org.
