WESTFIELD – The Westfield Regional Health Department continues to work closely with Animal Control to locate the potentially rabid raccoon responsible for biting 3 residents last week through trapping and continued canvassing. While there have been no additional incidents, the department is following up on several reports of potential sightings of raccons over the weekend, none of which have been confirmed as being associated with the biting episodes. It’s important to note that the first incident occurred more than seven days ago and the last one more than five days ago. Typically, a rabid animal dies within days of what is referred to as the furious stage of rabies.
