Equestrians Support 100 Years of Horses at Watchung
MOUNTAINSIDE — Those looking for an outdoor escape often turn to Watchung Reservation for hiking, biking, and fishing. But residents also have access to a unique Union County tradition: horseback riding. This year marks the 100 year anniversary of the Watchung Stable, which houses nearly 100 horses. The publicly-owned stable is one of the last remaining places in North Jersey where anyone can learn to ride, from equestrians to novices alike. Although the County and taxpayers are ultimately responsible for supporting the stable, a dedicated group of riders known as the Watchung Stable Auxiliary has taken the reins to help provide for the animals they love most.
