TO THE RESCUE...Pictured are police officers, firefighters and DPW employees working together to effectuate the rescue of an elderly man with mobility issues who was trapped in his vehicle in rapidly rising waters near the intersection of Forest Avenue and Seneca Place at approximately 7:13 p.m. Monday. They entered waist-high floodwaters with their inflatable emergency rescue boat to rescue and remove the victim to safety. He was transported to the Westfield Police Department, where he was assessed by the Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad but suffered no apparent injuries. The Rapid Storm Response Team operated into the late evening hours on Monday, responding to numerous water emergencies — removing 20 or so persons from vehicles submerged in floodwaters around town. Westfield Council Passes Multiple Ordinances, Lauds Flood Response
WESTFIELD — The Westfield Town Council formally passed five ordinances during its Tuesday meeting, with topics ranging from parking permit fees to bans on electric bicycles and scooters on park pathways. Mayor Shelley Brindle and Councilman David Contract were absent from the meeting. Councilwoman Linda Habgood presided as acting mayor. All other members were present.
