Robert L. Compton

In Loving Memory of Robert L. Compton
February 4, 1957-May 21, 2025

Robert Compton, known to many as Bob, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Florida in May 2025.

Bob was born and raised in Westfield, New Jersey, where he graduated from Westfield High School in 1975, before completing his degree at Kean University. He went on to serve with distinction in the Westfield Police Department, rising to the rank of Captain. Bob took great pride in protecting and serving the town he called home.

While residing in New Jersey, Bob was an active member of Saint Agnes Roman Catholic Church. A police officer by vocation, Bob was born to serve — and he did so graciously and joyfully. At church, he faithfully served as an usher, always ready to assist anyone in need. He was also a proud member of the Holy Name Society, a Catholic confraternity devoted to honoring the name of Jesus through prayer, acts of charity, and lives of personal integrity. Bob was a man of deep faith. At various points in his life, he found strength and solace in the prayers and fellowship of the Holy Name Society. Though his life’s journey was marked by hardship, he never lost faith in God’s mercy and the enduring hope of redemption.

He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Turton; daughters, Alexandra (Allie) and Heidi Compton; his brother, Chris Compton, and sister, Susan Domino. He was predeceased by his parents, Richard L. Compton and Rosemarie Dusenberry (Mieczkowski), and his sister, Teri Compton (Geenberg).

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 11 a.m., at Saint Agnes Church in Clark, New Jersey. The family invites all who knew Bob to come together in prayer and remembrance.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to organizations supporting addiction recovery, in Bob’s memory and the many others still fighting.
