Mat Class, Saturday, July 12 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Club Pilates will hold a Mat class on the library’s patio on Arlington Street. For this introductory class, participants should bring a yoga mat (or beach towel) to participate. The session is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Blue Grass Jam. Saturday, July 12 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. A bluegrass jam is an informal gathering of musicians who play bluegrass music together, sharing songs, stories, and the joy of music. Bluegrass jams are a central part of the bluegrass community and are a great way to improve musicianship. The Tragic Elizabeth Air Crashes of 1950 and 1951, with Professor Peter Zablocki, will be presented on Monday, July 14 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Over a 58-day period in the early 1950s in Elizabeth, there were three plane crashes. History professor and podcaster Zablocki will discuss how these crashes nearly permanently closed Newark Airport, put a small industrial city on-edge, and led to global changes in airport design. Family Fun and Flix at Warinanco Park in Elizabeth. The free Family Fun and Flix program will run through August with various family-friendly movies. The Family Fun and Flix fun begins at 7:30 p.m. with familyfriendly festivities. An ice cream truck will be on site for attendees who wish to purchase a snack. Each movie, weather permitting, will begin at dusk. Residents are encouraged to bring a blanket or beach chair to claim a spot on the lawn.
