Gratitude for the Gift of Unexpected Friendships: The Firefighter and The Farmpreneur, Part II
In the last column, you met Karl, the D.C. firefighter, and Emma, the organic farmer. Karl grew up with conservative, evangelical parents. Emma was raised in a liberal family and is devoted to climate sustainability and locally sourced produce. It was unlikely Emma and Karl would ever meet, given their jobs and backgrounds. And it was less likely that they’d fall in love. Yet they did… At their kids’ hockey practice, Emma was new to her role as a ringside parent. She sat in the bleachers, restlessly watching the kids skate and writing notes for the next day at the farm. Given her active farm and family life, she rarely sat still.
