Third Seeded Raiders Oust Cougars In UCT Boys Lax Quarterfinal, 17-2

No mercy was allowed when the third-seeded Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School boys lacrosse team hosted the sixth-seeded Cranford Cougars in the quarterfinal round of the Union County Tournament at Wexler Field in Scotch Plains on May 5. The Cougars had previously defeated seventh-seeded Oratory Prep, 8-4, in the opening round.

The outcome of the game was more or less decided within the first three minutes when the 10-5 Raiders stuffed in four unanswered goals. Two minutes later with 7:18 showing, Raider Nick Homer scored then Ryan Scarpa made the score 6-0 less than a minute later. The 7-7 Cougars did not score their first goal until the third quarter then added their other goal in the fourth quarter.

Homer finished with two goals, two assists and a ground ball. Ryan Scarpa finished with two goals, three assists and three ground balls. Pit man Ryan Mauer won all 11 of his face-offs, scooped nine ground balls and added an assist. Brian Klopfer netted three goals, three assists and a ground ball. Colin Kochanowicz flicked in two goals, dished out three assists and scooped a ground ball. Caden Matulonis had a goal and a ground ball as did Asher Silva, Vince Slack, Ben Filler and Noah Brown. Sammie Jimenez scored twice and scooped a ground ball. Lorenzo Tittanegro had a goal and two ground balls. Jake Lukko scooped three ground balls. Nate Filler won three of five face-offs and scooped three ground balls. Matt Iannotta won one of two face-offs and scooped a ground ball. Goalkeeper Matt Krantz made four saves.

Cougar goalkeeper Ethan Macnab recorded 17 saves. Will Morgan had a goal and an assist. Beckett Nachtman scored once. Lucas Hoeffler had two ground balls. Ryan Gergersen scooped three ground balls and Vince Otten scooped two and won three of seven faceoffs. In the win over Oratory Prep, Gregersen had two goals, three assists and two ground balls. Nachtman had two goals, an assist and a ground ball. Brendan Furst and Hoeffler (3 ground balls) each scored once. Reece Icklan had a goal, assist and two ground balls. Frank Neglio had a goal and a ground ball. Jack Corcoran scooped four ground balls. Morgan had an assist and four ground balls. Jackson Jones had an assist and Macnab made 15 saves.

Oratory Prep goalkeeper Connor Odendahl made 14 saves. Pat Barrett, Tyson Moose, Hunter Lloyd (7 of 16 face-offs) and Connor Powers each scored once.

Taylor Brezee had an assist.
