Blue Devils Oust Pioneers, Bow to Summit in UCT Lax

The third-seeded, No. 10 Westfield High School girls lacrosse team ousted the sixth-seeded New Providence Pioneers, 18-8, in the quarterfinal round of the Union County Tournament (UCT) in Westfield on May 5. On May 7 in Clark, the Blue Devils had a battle with the second-seeded, No.3 Summit Hilltoppers but came up short, 8-7, in the semifinals.

Alice Manzo finished with four goals, two assists, two ground balls, four draws and a forced turnover against the 10-3 Pioneers. Kate Cymbor had four goals, two assists, three draws, a forced turnover and a ground ball. Logan Partridge finished with two goals, three ground balls, a draw and a forced turnover. Eloise Murphy had a goal and an assist. Maddie Smith, Kate Paris, Lorelei McGorty (2 draws) and Abi Mokrzycki (draw, forced turnover) each scored once.

Maeve Wojcik had three forced turnovers and a ground ball. Skylar Abo had two assists. Grace Simms had an assist. Emma Blake forced two turnovers and added a draw and a ground ball. Maddy Coen had three draws and a ground ball. Ella Giacalone scooped a ground ball. Goalkeepers Lauren Furey recorded six saves, yielding five goals, and Haley Berger recorded two saves and yielded three goals.

Addy Fitzgerald netted three goals and an assist for the Pioneers. Libby Knight had two goals, an assist and four draws. Valeria Amaya scored twice. Stephie Hughes had a goal and a draw. Megan McPoland had an assist and five draws. Lacey Guinta had an assist.

The 10-4 Hilltoppers trailed the 10-3 Blue Devils, 6-5, heading into the fourth quarter but came up with three goals for the win. Cohen had two goals, an assist and a ground ball. McGorty scored twice. Manzo had a goal, two assists and a draw. Cymbor had a goal, two draws and a forced turnover. Mokrzycki had a goal and an assist. Hazard and Emily Kennedy each forced two turnovers. Furey recorded six saves. Hilltopper Molly Davies finished with two goals, two assists and a ground ball. Parker Febo had two goals and three draws. Sloane Ricciuti had two goals and a ground ball. Nell Ducey had a goal, assist, five draws and a ground ball. Francesca Arcella scored once. Emily Sensenich had five draws, two ground balls and a forced turnover. Kelsey Shallcross had an assist. Goalkeeper Katherine Hicks made four saves.
