Raiders’ Blast in 10th Stuns ALJ in Classic Pitchers’ Duel
Classic pitchers’ duels in softball with dramatic endings rarely occur but one for the ages certainly did when the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Raiders entertained the No. 20 ranked AL Johnson Crusaders in Scotch Plains on April 25. Raider sophomore pitcher Maddie Bogart and Crusader sophomore ace Cassie Conforti were locked in a classic pitchers’ duel until senior Angelina Valente got her bat on a fastball in the bottom of the 10th inning and sent it soaring over the centerfield fence for three-run home run to earn the 9-3 Raiders a 52 triumph.
