CRANFORD — The Cranford Theater was successfully evacuated on Wednesday night after a partial ceiling collapse that garnered widespread attention from local first responders.
No injuries were reported.
“Upon arrival, first responders found an active ceiling collapse in the movie theater, which was open and operational at the time of this event. Responding crews immediately began a search and rescue effort and determined that all occupants had evacuated,” Cranford Police and Fire officials said via written communication to The Westfield Leader.
Emergency units remained on the scene for several hours following the incident to secure utilities and ensure that the building was secured.
As of Thursday morning, the building was still deemed uninhabitable, and the cause of the collapse remains under investigation.
The Cranford Theater was not available for comment at the time of publication.
