Blue Devils Catch Fire in Fourth, Scorch Cardinals in Semis, 42-38
Two previous showdowns were barnburners but the third would turn out to be another sizzler when the second-seeded Westfield High School girls basketball team matched wits with the third-seeded Plainfield Cardinals in the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 semifinal game at Westfield on March 5. Just when it appeared to be a high-flying victory for the Cardinals, the Blue Devils overcame a 10point deficit early in the fourth quarter and caught fire to scorch their opponent with a 42-38 triumph.
