SUMMIT AREA — The Summit Area Old Guard will present Mike Ohlson on Tuesday, March 4, at 9:30 a.m. Mr. Ohlson is the property manager and unofficial historian of the New Providence Presbyterian Church, which serves as the Old Guard’s home.
SUMMIT AREA — The Summit Area Old Guard will present Mike Ohlson on Tuesday, March 4, at 9:30 a.m. Mr. Ohlson is the property manager and unofficial historian of the New Providence Presbyterian Church, which serves as the Old Guard’s home.
During his program, Mr. Ohlson will review the history of the church, which was founded in 1737. He will discuss some of its most memorable milestones along with its mission. The church played a key role during the Revolutionary War and the Civil War and has become a major provider of community services as a part of its faith mission over nearly three centuries in New Providence.
Founded in 1930, the Summit Area Old Guard meets most Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. at the New Providence Presbyterian Church, located at 1307 SpringfieldAvenue, New Providence. The Old Guard is a social, recreational and educational fellowship of retired men. Dues are minimal. The group provides speakers and multiple activities through its members’ volunteer efforts. Upcoming Old Guard speakers are as follows: March 11 — Dana Turk, the president of the Summit Foundation, will address the Foundation’s philanthropic works for the Summit area for the past 50 years.
March 18 — Randi Koenig of Legacy Genealogy Services will present “What’s Your Legacy?”
March 25 — Lauren S. Barr, publisher and editor-in-chief of The Westfield Leader, founded in 1890, as well as the Union County HAWK.
