Austin B. Sayre, Jr., 94, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, February 11, 2025. He was the beloved son of Austin B. Sayre, Sr. and Anne Rives Sayre. Born in New York City, Austin lived in Westfield, N.J., for 55 years, before moving to Garwood, N.J., in 2012. He graduated with a degree in Industrial Administration from Yale College in 1952, and with an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1954. He then served as an ensign in the U.S. Navy until 1957. After a year at General Dynamics in New Jersey, he joined AmericanAbrasive Metals Company, a family-owned business that produced industrial safety products. He became its president following the death of his father, Austin Sr., in 1967 and led the 100-person company until its sale in 1989.
