Carl Swenson

Remembering Carl Swenson,
Beloved Husband and Father

Carl John Swenson passed away peacefully on Friday, December 27, 2024. He was 78 years old. Carl was born in Kenilworth, N.J., on December 25, 1946. He was a proud Army veteran, having served our country during Vietnam, where he learned to speak Thai fluently. After leaving the military he was an entrepreneur and built an electrical contracting business that served Union County, as well as New York City. Carl enjoyed flying, and after years being “grounded” he started flying private planes again and even taught flying classes to other aspiring pilots.

Carl was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His family was his pride and joy. His love for them and others could be visibly felt and seen by anyone who met him. His smile and laughter were contagious.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn, of 48 years; his brothers, Nils (wife Cheryl) and Paul (wife Shawn); his children and grandchildren, Christine (O’Grady), her husband, Tim, and their children, McKenna and Reagan, Linnea (Swenson) and her son, Jack, Becky (Yan), her husband, Justin, and their son, Emmett John. He was preceded in his death by his parents, Swen and Isabella Swenson; his sister, Ingrid Power, and loving in-laws, Edwin and Bertha Youngstrom. Friends may visit the family on Friday, January 3, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Dooley Colonial Home in Westfield. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 4, at 10:30 a.m., at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Westfield. All other services will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations are asked in Carl’s name to the Redeemer Lutheran Church at https://www.redeemerwestfield.com/give or to the Wounded Warrior Project at https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate.
