V-Ball Cougars Fall In Section Semifinal

The second-seeded Cranford High School girls volleyball team defeated Hopewell Valley, 25-20, 18-25, 2522, in the quarterfinal round of the Central Jersey, Group 2 playoff on November 7. Two days later the 12-9 Cougars dropped a heartbreaking, three-game match to third-seeded Wall, 10-25, 25-22, 28-26.

Against Hopewell Valley, Addison Rivera recorded 18 assists, a kill, nine digs and four services with an ace. Emma Andre had 12 assists, a kill, five digs and two aces. Alex Chapman notched eight kills and added nine digs, an assist and nine services.Annabella Guidice had seven services with four aces, four kills and nine digs. Lylah Wilhelm recorded a kill, two blocks and two digs. Bella Curanovic had two kills, two blocks and three digs. Sanaa Wright recorded eight kills, two blocks and two digs. Taylor Jones had five kills and a dig. Lily Szczesny scooped 14 digs. Grace Ingraham had four digs.

In Wall’s victory, the big guns were Amelia Degutis with 13 kills, a block and a dig. Gemma Ferris had 17 digs, six kills and four services with an ace. Ava Grant dished out 20 assists and added 10 services with three aces, two kills and six digs. Brianna Gant recorded four kills, 10 digs, an assist and two services with an ace. Molly Stopera had 16 digs and five services with an ace. (No stats recorded by the Cougars).
