Blue Devils Defeat Union, P-Burg in V-Ball Sections

The top-seeded Westfield High School girls volleyball team rolled to a 25-16, 25-18, victory over the eighthseeded Union Farmers in the quarterfinal round of the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 playoff at Westfield on November 7. Next on the list was the 12th-seeded Phillipsburg Stateliners in the semifinal round and the 19-10 Blue Devils came up big in two games, 25-12, 25-11.

Previously the 16-11 Union Farmers defeated the Linden Tigers in three games and the Stateliners pulled off an upset over the fifth-seeded Bayonne Bees in two games.

Catie Carayannopoulos recorded seven kills, two blocks, nine digs and six services with an ace against Union. Ava Gaspard finished with nine kills, two digs and a service. Vicki Morey notched five kills, two digs and four services with an ace. Sabrina Muller notched three kills. Audrey Stack had three digs and seven services with two aces. Audrey Hu recorded nine digs, an assists and eight services. Emelia Dengler finished with two kills, three digs, 24 assists and two services. Maddy Coen had two kills, a block and two digs. Grace Moore and Lillian Wood both recorded a kill. Kelsey Dix had an assist and Sofia Droskoski scooped a dig.

Against P-Burg, Dengler had 15 assists, a kill and three digs. Carayannopoulos recorded six kills, two blocks, two digs, two assists and 13 services with a pair of aces. Gaspard notched eight kills to go with four digs and 11 services with five aces. Morey had two kills, four digs and three services with an ace. Coen had three kills. Muller had three kills, a block and a dig. Keira Deignan had a kill. Stack had six digs and seven services with an ace. Hu scooped eight digs. Dix provided three assists.

Sara Ellison had nine assists, two digs and two services for 8-12 PBurg. Hannah Burdge had a kill and seven digs. Alexa Magivgorac recorded two kills, six digs and a service. Adison Acuna had seven digs, a kill and an assist. Amanda Mrotek had two services and five digs. Ray-Anah Brown-Smith had three kills and a dig. Marian Cionek had a kill and a block.

The Blue Devils would host second- seeded Union City for the title on November 12. Previously, Union City defeated sixth-seeded Columbia in two games.
