Blue Devil Boys Blitz JPS Hawks in First Round

tive early on when Williams sent a hard shot soaring over the net within the first minute. Three minutes in, Iannuzzi’s right-side corner kick caused a scramble in the box and a deflection. Then with 33:49 left in the first half, a Hawk was interfered with in the box and Ritam Chaudhuri nailed the PK just to the right of Gunzberg.

The 1-0 lead did not last long as Iannuzzi took a shot that goalkeeper Aryan Bhardwaj deflected. Judka got the rebound and tapped it over the line with 30:39 on the clock. Within two minutes, Judka scooted down the center, outmaneuvered a defender and skid the ball past Bhardwaj to give the Blue Devils a 2-1 lead.

With 26:20 left in the half, Williams with a right-to-left lead, assisted Iannuzzi on his goal. Next came Judka and with 24:05 showing, he notched his “Hat Trick” for a 4-1 lead. Judka was still hungry and made another charge down the right-center but this time, Bhardwaj made a diving save.

At the mid point of the half, senior midfielder Dan DeSousa got in close but his left-to-right shot was just off course. At 18:40 remaining, Iannuzzi’s free kick from 35-yards out was stopped. With 17:01 showing, Iannuzzi launched another long shot that ricocheted off the left side of the crossbar, came back into play and Rokhsar tried to make good on the rebound but Bhardwaj made the stop.

As the first half wound down, Rokhsar and Sun would score for a 61 lead. The huge lead allowed for more reserves to enter into the onslaught, then in the second half, Zafra finalized the scoring “Having that lead did give us an opportunity to get all 24 players into the game and allow some key players to get some time off,” Coach Shaw explained.

On November 8, the Blue Devils would host the sixth-seeded Irvington Blue Knights, who defeated Barringer, 2-1.
