It’s Time for a Change at the Ballot Box in Scotch Plains
Letters to the Editor, Paid Political

It’s Time for a Change at the Ballot Box in Scotch Plains

The administration under Mayor Josh Losardo and Councilwoman Ellen Zimmerman has faced significant backlash for being out of touch with the community’s needs and priorities. One glaring example is the decision to implement a paid ambulance service without securing a shared revenue agreement from neighboring towns. This move has placed a financial burden on Scotch Plains residents while failing to ensure that costs are equitably distributed. It suggests a lack of forethought and planning, leaving taxpayers to shoulder the costs alone.

Additionally, the Brookside Park Turf field capital bond ordinance debacle is a clear indication of how detached the council has become. The proposal was so poorly received that residents overwhelmingly rejected it in a referendum, with a staggering 72-28% vote against it. This result is a resounding message from the community, yet it reflects an administration that appears disconnected from what the people actually want.

Moreover, the upcoming school board capital bond referendum speaks to the consequences of overdevelopment, a trend driven by the current administration. This overdevelopment has not only strained local resources but has also led to increased demands on the school system, culminating in additional financial burdens for residents. As we continue to face these issues, it’s clear that the administration has not aligned its development strategies with the community’s long-term interests.

With local elections approaching on November 5th, it’s an opportunity for residents to voice their dissatisfaction. Voting for Chris Kresge for Mayor and Brian Johdos for Council presents a chance to bring a fresh perspective to Scotch Plains governance— one that aligns more closely with the community’s priorities and addresses the concerns of those who feel ignored by the current administration. If you’re tired of policies that seem disconnected from the everyday realities of Scotch Plains residents, it’s time for a change at the ballot box.
