Elaine Rosenberg

Elaine Rosenberg, Beloved Wife, Mother and Grandmother

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Elaine Rosenberg, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 10, 2024. Elaine was 90 years old and lived in Westfield, New Jersey for 53 years.

Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on December 29, 1933, Elaine was the daughter of the late Morris and Martha Brown. Elaine was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Jerome (Jerry) Rosenberg, and a brother, Morton Brown. Elaine is survived by her children, Beth Shak (Jay) of Tilghman, Maryland, Michael Rosenberg (Lydia) of Westfield, and Barry Rosenberg (Harlee) of Bridgewater; and adored grandchildren, Marcus, Nina, Elizabeth, John, Daniel and Gary, as well as her sister, Linda Harwin, and her brother, Ira Brown.

Elaine grew up in Elizabeth, New Jersey, where she excelled in school and helped her mother care for her much younger sister and brother. She graduated from New Jersey State Teachers College in June 1955 and began teaching third grade. She married Jerry in July 1956 and soon established a home in Carteret, New Jersey, where she and Jerry began their family. After serving as a substitute teacher in Carteret when her children were young, Elaine and Jerry moved to Westfield, New Jersey in 1971. In the 1970s, Elaine earned her New Jersey Real Estate Broker’s License and was certified as a Graduate Senior Appraiser. Elaine owned and operated her own real estate firm, Rose Realty, in Fanwood, New Jersey. Elaine remained an active New Jersey real estate agent for more than 20 years.

Elaine was a dedicated member of the Temple Emanu-El Choir for over 50 years, and she greatly enjoyed singing alongside her fellow choir members during rehearsals, Shabbat, and High Holidays. She was a volunteer at the Westfield Memorial Library, where she assisted with the annual book sale for many years. Elaine was a devoted library patron, and she enjoyed reading all types of literary fiction. First and foremost, Elaine was a fiercely loyal Yankee fan who attended games at Yankee Stadium for more than 70 years and diligently watched Yankee games on television throughout her life. Elaine’s greatest passion was cooking for her family. Among her friends and family, “Grandma Elaine” will always be remembered for her wonderful meals and gatherings to celebrate holidays and special milestones, giving everyone an opportunity to see each other and keep involved with one another’s lives. Elaine enjoyed spending time, sharing meals, and traveling with her family, and she always greeted her children and grandchildren with great excitement and the highest enthusiasm. She made her grandchildren feel as if they were the most special people in the world.

Elaine Rosenberg will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew her, and her memory will live on through her children and grandchildren. Throughout her life, Elaine always expressed her love for her family through her generous deeds and, of course, her abundant meals.

Zichrona livracha. May Elaine Rosenberg’s memory be for blessing.
