Dr. Timothy James Hamway, Longtime Westfield Resident
Dr. Timothy James Hamway, 72, passed away peacefully at his home in Westfield on Monday, October 14. He was the son of the late Charles and Shirley Hamway of North Plainfield, N.J.
Tim was passionate about his family, food, music, the beach, and Rutgers football. He served as a licensed psychologist since 1986, as well as Director of Special Services in several prestigious school districts. He also was appointed to the position of State Chair of the Special Education Committee of the NJPSA, visiting Washington D.C. to lobby for child-oriented changes to legislation. An accomplished academic, Tim taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in Psychology and Special Education at Rutgers, Seton Hall, Kean, and most recently Fairleigh Dickinson’s Quest program. A lover of entertainment, he also made several media appearances on local television shows and served as a repeat psychiatric consultant on “ The Sally Jessy Raphael Show.”
He is survived by his loving wife, Roxane; his beloved children, Chrissy, Jack, Sheldon and Marielle, and his brother, Thomas.
Friends may visit the family today, Thursday, October 17, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue, Westfield. A service will be held on Friday, October 18, at 11 a.m., at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Westfield.
